Spelthorne Planning and Development

One of the biggest issues facing Spelthorne is the quality of our environment and this is the subject of this section.  The Liberal Democrats believe strongly in preserving and enhancing the quality of life for residents.  This does not mean that we oppose all new building, but we do want to see the consistent application of policies that ensure that all new developments are built to a consistent high quality and sympathetic to the local environment.

The Liberal Democrats are the only political party committed to fighting for Spelthorne residents.

The Liberal Democrats are strongly critical of some of the policies and decisions made by the Conservative-Controlled Spelthorne Borough Council and also Surrey County Council.  We believe that residents legitimate interests have not been properly reflected in policies and the implementation of these policies has damaged our environment in Spelthorne.  If you want to change the attitude Spelthorne Borough Council takes on development you should join the Liberal Democrats.

Due to the financial crisis there has been a marked decrease in large planning applications and there are a number of sites round the borough where planning permission has been granted but work has not yet started. There are signs that the market is picking up and we can expect to see an increase in applications. Over the last few years Spelthorne has suffered greatly from developers seeking to maximise profits without consideration for the quality of the housing or the amenity of local residents.
