Planning and Development – Development Issues

Inappropriate Development

Many of the developments that come before the Planning Committee are inappropriate in their context, design, scale or density.  Developers use every corner of planning law to make sure that no opportunity for profit is missed.  Many of the developments appear to have absolutely no regard to the amenity of local residents.  New housing is built which is often of inferior quality and which degrades the local environment, puts pressure on infrastructure and makes the existing residents worse off.  The developers come in, wreck the locality and then move on to the next site.  The balance very much appears to be in favour of developer profit at the expense of the amenity of local residents.
